About us

Founded in science, guided by expertise

Silthera is a biotech startup and spin-off from the University of L’Aquila. It was established to accelerate the discovery and development of siRNA-based therapies for rare genetic diseases.

Combining scientific expertise, operational development and a translational vision, the company aims to make therapeutic design faster, more systematic and focused on clinical impact.

Silthera is founded by three scientists with experience in international academic research, precision medicine and the development of advanced therapeutic programmes, and it is grounded in the scientific method, experimental rigour and a strong focus on translating research into concrete solutions.

The company’s mission is to accelerate the discovery of RNA therapies, making the process more systematic and predictive, and to provide new therapeutic options in areas where they are currently limited or non-existent.

Our story:
from research to business

COLLABORATIVE ACADEMIC
RESEARCH

The laboratories have built expertise in genetic diseases and the molecular mechanisms driving their progression

THE DISCOVERY OF THE POTENTIAL OF siRNAs

Experience in RNA technologies has led to the identification of siRNAs as one of the most promising tools for targeted therapeutic interventions

THE FIRST PATIENT

Discussions with patients and organisations have made it clear that research needs to be stepped up in order to have a real impact

THE PLATFORM IDEA

The idea for a platform that could integrate bioinformatics, machine learning and biological validation into a single discovery pipeline emerged

RECOGNITION AS AN ACADEMIC SPIN-OFF

This recognition by the University of L'Aquila confirms the scientific value of the technology, supporting its transition into industrial development

SILTHERA IS BORN

The technology is leaving the laboratory with the aim of speeding up the discovery of siRNA therapies for rare diseases through a faster approach
